Facebook Trying Out New Dialer App For Android Users

According to a report, Facebook is looking to get more involved with its user base by introducing a new dialer application. It is said that the company is currently testing this app with Android and will eventually bring it to smartphones.

In functionality, it will be a lot like Truecaller, judging by the screenshot. The app will have access to your call logs and will let you block numbers that you desire and even pick out of the commonly blocked numbers from its database.

This comes after the company tried its hand with Facebook Home, which was a custom launcher that gave users Facebook access right on their home screen. The app still exists on the Play Store, but has barely seen any love from the fans of the social networking site, given the prominence of other third party launchers in the Play Store, not to mention the Google Now Launcher, which is quite popular with stock Android lovers.

It is to be seen if Facebook Dialer will manage to drive users away from Truecaller as this app essentially works on the same idea. So users probably won't be able to use the two in tandem. Keeping this in mind, it might be hard for Facebook to convince users to switch over to this new dialer app.

When asked about this feature, Facebook said - "We are always testing things and have nothing to announce at this time," so the company is still pretty tight lipped on the sort of functionality this app will bring.
