Save WhatsApp Chats On Google Drive? That's Going To Happen Very Soon

There's no question about WhatsApp being the most popular chat platform. After displacing SMS as the preferred mode of social communication, the app has managed to evolve itself with time by introducing multimedia options and more recently we saw Whatsapp on web and voice- calling become part of the set up as well.

It may be the best out there right now (WeChat and Line might not agree) with huge user base and downloads that keep on growing but even then issues exist that need to be fixed. For someone like a geek or tech reviewer (like yours truly), the need to switch phones on regular basis is a normal practice. And for that you need to keep moving around phone with the same account but how does one actually save the content and move to the next device? WhatsApp for all its benefits doesn't allow storing chat history anywhere besides internal storage of phone.

But in all likelihood, the most apparent drawback of WhatsApp will get sorted, once and for all. According to reports, all your WhatsApp chat history will soon get saved to your Google Drive account on the cloud. While, we would have liked to option to save chats to microSD card, but the fact that WhatsApp has thought over the issue, makes it more than certain that changes are expected to happen very soon.

The report has managed to grab snapshots of the possible features expected to be added on WhatsApp in the coming weeks. Google Drive seems like the best possible cloud platform that WhatsApp team can team up with for saving data. This way, phones will get synchronized to Gmail accounts on user, whose already using the same for Gmail, Hangouts and Contacts among others.

Having said that, it will be interesting to see how does WhatsApp treat the iPhone users from the chat history saving point of view. Do they opt for dual-platform strategy with Google Drive and iCloud being their respective sources or will they solely rely on Google's cloud storage for all mobile platforms, including the one from Windows and BlackBerry.
