Twitter joins Digital India mission via Twitter Samvad service

Twitter joins Digital India mission via Twitter Samvad
service

It's not often that Twitter's chief head Dick Costolo comes down to India and when he does, there's bound to be major development brewing along the sidelines. And by the looks of it, the micro-blogging site is all set to join the Digital India bandwagon, which already comprises of arch rival Facebook among others such as Amazon and Microsoft.

Twitter's play in the digital mission comes in the form of 'Twitter Samvad', which enable users across the country to interact and stay in touch with officials who form of the ministry. "Based on Indian technological innovation, Twitter Samvad is dedicated [to], and specially built, for the largest democracy of the world. As part of the Prime Minister's Digital India initiative, this tweet-powered service enables citizens to be the first to know about the government's actions by receiving political content in real-time on their mobile devices anywhere in the country," Costolo was quoted saying to the media.

The Indian technological element that Costolo has referred to in the statement is the first sight of ZipDial making itself prominent in the media ever since the startup was bought over by the social networking giants earlier this year.

Twitter has become a mass-consumed platform these days with millions of users contributing to the platform's cause in the country. Various social efforts have been openly highlighted in the open and will continue to do so, now that Section 66A act never came through, much to the relief of the public. In simple terms, Twitter Samvad is the means to communicate with top dignitaries via Tweets and receive all kind of updates on your phone, be it emergency or major announcement.

Here's how Samvad works:
- Set of numbers have been assigned to respect minister's account which can be followed on to your handle by giving them a missed call.
- One you do that, your handle start getting tweets from the ministers, to whom you have signed on.
- Other than daily updates, you also stand the chance to receive information via tweet over major developments that have emerged recently.

This isn't the first and last that we're hearing about ZipDial's involvement in the country. It's a good start with ZipDial's capabilities being put to good use by Costolo and Twitter right now and more developments are expected to emerge from this arrangement in the coming months.
