Yahoo Mail’s redesigned contact cards act as caller ID for your inbox

Yahoo Mail’s redesigned contact cards act as caller ID for your inbox

Popular search engine Yahoo has today announced the launch of new contact card, which will be available every time users hover over a person's name in a message, or while composing an e-mail on Yahoo Mail.

This happened soon after tech giant Google introduced a new design along with new features for its Google Contacts service.

These small cards launched by Yahoo pop up when you move the mouse over the name of the person appearing in a message. The contact cards provide useful information about them like their phone number, job title, name of the company they work with, and even links to their social profiles like Facebook and Flickr.

According to Yahoo, this new system is powered by technology offered by Xobni. These contact cards display information from your address book as well as Facebook and Flickr profiles (in accordance with the privacy settings of the users). Besides, the cards include up-to-date phone numbers that a contact may have shared with you via e-mail in the past. So, this saves you from the need of checking your inbox to hunt for the right number.

But you don't just have to look at the information, go ahead and take action directly from the cards. Quickly search for emails from that person, compose a new email, add the person to your address book, edit the contact information or click on links to go and visit their full Facebook or Flickr page.

To see Facebook information, you'll first need to link your Yahoo account to Facebook by following these steps:
1) Click on the gear in the top right corner of Yahoo Mail
2) Select settings and then accounts
3) Click on connect to Facebook.
