HTC Could Unveil A New Smartwatch At MWC 2015 Afterall
While all the focus is on HTC's upcoming One M9 "Hima" flagship, the company might also have a new wearable to show off according to a new leak. Known as the "Petra" internally, the smartwatch will be supposedly running RTOS and not Android Wear as most of us imagined. We're guessing HTC decided to go with its own OS in order to make the smartwatch compatible across various mobile platforms rather than limiting it to just Android.
The wearable could be shown off along with the One M9 smartphone on the 1st of March in Barcelona. The Petra is said to be packing a 1.8-inch flexible display with a resolution of 32x160. The device will also support features like GPS, which were missing from the early crop of Android Wear devices.
To make it more customizable, it is said that HTC will launch the smartwatch in three different sizes (small, medium and large), which is unheard of in the wearable industry. The device promises to come with a three-day battery life and will also be water and dust resistant like most smartwatches available today.
HTC will most likely have companion apps for the wearable on iOS and Android. The company is not hesitant to design cross platform products as we saw with the recent RE Camera, which is also compatible with iOS thanks to an app. There's no word on what this companion app will be, but luckily, we don't have to wait long to find out.
Pricing of the Petra wearable should be on par with most smartwatches in the market today, so don't expect any surprises in that area.
