LG To Make The Next Nexus Smartphone?
There's been talk about Huawei gearing up to produce the next Nexus smartphone. But a new report is suggesting that LG might make a comeback to the Nexus family this year.
The speculation stems from the fact that a bunch of Google engineers visited LG's headquarters in South Korea. The team is also expected to visit some other units of LG, which gives further credence to the report.
While it's not far-fetched to assume that LG might have another Nexus handset in the making, given what we've heard about Huawei so far, we're a little on the fence about this one. Either way, it's still too early to tell.
Perhaps LG will partner Google in producing the Nexus tablet this time around. It's plausible since the company went with HTC for the last Nexus tablet, which had some hardware/design issues in the first batch. That can be put down to HTC's lack of experience in the tablet industry, but it's possible that it might have rubbed off negatively on Google's top brass.
With Huawei looking set to make the next Nexus handset and LG partnering for the tablet, the Nexus lineup could certainly get a huge boost. Google has been trying hard to get the Asian audience hooked to the idea of a Nexus device. Partnering with Huawei and LG is certainly the right way to do it.
Huawei has a massive presence in China and is the third largest smartphone vendor in the world, which will greatly help Google's cause. LG has already made two Nexus smartphones, so the transition into the tablet segment should be an easy one. We'll keep our ears peeled for more details on this rumor.
