Motorola might see India as an important market for lot of its products and services but seems like the Moto Maker does not make it to that list. This has been more or less confirmed in the open by the company and it's not really hard to see their interest with Moto Maker for India.
Motorola has apparently decided to make the Moto Maker service available globally from this month onwards but without specifying the countries that will be focused around. We think it was smart game by Motorola to not mention the countries.
We can pretty much assure you that Moto Maker is not coming to India and there seems to be no intent on Motorola's part to offer the service anytime soon.
Moto Maker is an interesting service proposition for consumers but for India we're not sure if it makes sense right now," says Amit Boni, General Manager for Motorola India speaking to us on the sidelines of Moto E launch event. By all means, Boni decided to stay cagey about the prospect of Moto Maker being available to consumers in India by reiterating the fact that "it can either come or may be not".
For those who are wondering about the Moto Maker, we'd like to tell them that Motorola has started this unique do-it-yourself project in US and more recently UK market. Under this service toolkit, the company lets you design the colours, finish, trim and memory of the phone (Moto X for e.g.) to meet your personal preference. In addition to that, users can also engrave a message on the back, or even bump up the internal storage support on the phone, by paying extra quid for the upgraded hardware.
It's a niche segment, wherein mobile users own the right to build their kind of device and India as market is more suited to the buying the end product itself. Are we surprised that Motorola has skipped India with Moto Maker? Not so much but we hope they might offer it in the foreseeable future.
