Apple’s New IPad Pro Line Could Use A USB 3.0 Port
According to a new industry source, Apple's rumored iPad Pro series could use a new USB 3.0 port for charging and data transfer. We don't expect the company to shy away from the proprietary lightning port just yet, but merely implement the technology without changing much on the design front.
There is also talk of Apple amping up the charging speed of the iPad Pro considering that it's supposed to be packing a substantially larger battery. The tablet is also expected to be packing a 12.2 or 12.9-inch display, so it will be a major upgrade over the iPad Air 2 which packs a 9.7-inch display panel. Using a USB 3.0 port will also mean increased data transfer speeds, so it will be a welcome addition on the tablet.
The device is expected to be unveiled on the 9th of March when the company will officially announce the arrival of the Apple Watch. The arrival of the iPad Pro (or the iPad Plus) hasn't been confirmed by Apple yet, so take it with a pinch of salt for the time being.
The report from the Wall Street Journal contradicts past rumors and suggests that the mass production of the iPad Pro will only begin in the second half of 2015, which hints at a September/October release timeframe.
This rumored productivity oriented tablet is expected to target the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and other large sized tablets that are currently selling in the markets. It is also possible that Apple will show off custom made accessories like keyboard cases and specially designed cases/covers for the tablet. This is something HTC did very well with the Nexus 9 tablet which was released in October.
